The GlobalX team has worked together for over 10 years designing an manufacturing high performance GPS tracking products and services.  Together they have over 45 years of design experience in this unique and highly technical field.

Roger Hayward, President & Project Manager

Roger graduated from MIT with a BS in Aerospace Engineering before going on to fly Hornets in the USMC. Following this Roger worked on a PhD Thesis at Stanford “GPS for Attitude Determination in General Aviation Aircraft. He dropped out of the Stanford PhD program after his masters to Start GyroSat which commercialized his thesis invention. This was sold to Seagull Technology and then to Garmin where it is now in the Garmin GA glass cockpit display system.

Following GyroSat Roger started Sportbug which used GPS for measuring athletes performance.  This company evolved into Traxsis which developed one of the first high sensitivity GPS cell phone add on’s.   This was one of the first devices that supported audio turn by turn directions over the cell phone.  As a result of this product Axiom Navigation purchased Traxsis to add to its Fleet Management product line.

After leaving Axiom, Roger and the Traxsis/SportBug development team, started Geotrax which developed a GPS tracking product used to recover stolen currency from bank robbers.  Geotrax commercialized the product and had its first arrest with in 12 months.  It subsequently  deployed over 10,000 tracker units  resulting in 100s of arrests before being acquired by its biggest customer 3SI Security.

Fernando Saldain, Director of Operations

Fernando graduated first in his class, from CET-MAR in Ensenada Mexico and obtained an associates degree in marine electronics, with a major in radio navigation.  Following this Fernando joined Lowrance Electronics, an OEM of consumer recreational GPS/SONAR equipment.   At Lowrance Fernando worked as group lead in various repair areas, across product lines and production areas, where he developed repair manuals for junior technicians.

Fernando joined Axiom Navigation, an OEM of Fleet Management Tracking Systems,  as engineering technician in charge of debugging prototype designs.  He was initially responsible for  developing test fixtures for production test automation, but was rapidly promoted to a hardware design engineer.  In this role Fernando  did  circuit design and pcb layout of several GPS based Fleet tracking systems working with CDMA, Microburst, and GSM radios.

After Axiom Fernando joined  Geotrax where he was instrumental in developing a GPS tracking product used to recover stolen currency from bank robbers.  As a direct result of Fernando’s design and prototyping skills the product was in production and had its first arrest with in 12 months.  While at Geotrax Fernando founded ERAM a low cost manufacturing facility in Ensenada Mexico that allowed Geotrax to rapidly prototype products and manufacture smaller quantities of other tracking products.

After 3SI Security, GeoTrax’s biggest customer, acquired GeoTrax Fernando continued as an employee and then as a consultant for 3SI Security.  His duties at 3SI Security included continued design work as well as managing the contract manufacturers responsible for 3SI’s cash tracking product.  While working for 3SI Security Fernando  continued to operate ERAM doing prototype and small quantity production runs for 3SI.

Timothy Pfafman, PhD, Software and Server Development Consultant

Timothy graduated from MIT with a double major in Physics and Mathematics and diid his graduate work at the University of California, Berkeley where he received a MS and  PhD in Physics.   His graduate research was in developing cryogenic detectors for X-Ray Astrophysics.  Timothy  did a postdoc at the Los Alamos National Lab where he conducted research into developing superconducting tunnel junctions for possible use in color night vision. He also worked on the ALEXIS extreme ultraviolet all sky survey satellite.  While at Los Alamos he was responsible for developing one of the first realtime web displays for satellite data.  From LANL Timothy went to work as a Staff Scientist at Stanford University, where he was the lead researcher developing a micro-machined (MEMS) surface contamination sensor which flew on the NASA Deep Space One spacecraft.  While at Stanford Timothy also did work as a software consultant, for Sigpro, developing a number of software solutions for Sigpro clients.    These included a Labview/C program for NASA Ames that collected high rate accelerometer data from helicopter turbines for use in predicting time to next failure as well as various other software projects centering around VOIP.

In 2000 Timothy left Stanford to join the startup Sportbug.  At Sportbug Timothy was the lead software architect/developer responsible for all server side software design, implementation and support.   He developed one of the first GPS tracking websites for sporting applications. This  allowed users to upload their Garmin GPS tracks to a website for viewing and sharing.    Sportbug evolved into Traxsis which developed one of the first high sensitivity GPS cell phone add on’s.  Timothy  was responsible for the backend system which reported the location of the mobile cell phones in realtime.  This system was key in Axiom Navigations decision to acquire Traxsis to augment their fleet management business.

After leaving Axiom, Timothy along with the rest of the Traxsis/SportBug development team, started Geotrax which developed a GPS tracking product used to recover stolen currency from bank robbers.  At Geotrax Timothy was the lead software architect/developer responsible for all server side and client software design, implementation and support.  He developed a system to alert clients and law enforcement when an item was stolen and allow them to track the current location from a website.  As a direct result of Timothy’s server system, Geotrax was able to deploy the product and had its first arrest with in 12 months.  It subsequently  deployed over 10,000 tracker units  resulting in 100s of arrests before being acquired by its biggest customer 3SI Security.

At 3SI Security Timothy was the lead software architect/developer for server side and client software for tracking applications. He trained 3SI personal on how to operate and develop on the Geotrax Tracking System.

Since leaving 3SI Security Timothy has developed a number of software application including an iOS app for teachers to look up the reading level of books by scanning the bar codes with their iPhone and a web based cycling route mapping tool for designing rides and exporting them to an iPhone (http://createcycleroutes.appspot.com).

Konstantin Gromov Phd, RF Design Consultant

Konstantin graduated from Leningrad State University with a BS and MA in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics before going on to Graduate school at Stanford University. Konstantin’s  PhD Thesis at Stanford was “Generalized Interference Detection and Localization System” or GIDL.  The GIDL system was designed to identify and locate jamming in the GPS band and help protect the WAAS and LAAS aircraft landing systems.  This involved hardware and software design and the manufacturing of the complete system.

After Stanford Konstantin a joined Sportbug, a start-up that used GPS for measuring athletes performance.  Konstantin was instrumental in developing a specialized omnidirectional patented GPS antenna for this application. He was also instrumental in a  a revolutionary design of the Sportbug product that eliminated the need for bulky RF shielding.  When Sportbug  evolved into Traxsis Konstantin was instrumental in the design of a high sensitivity GPS cell phone add on module.  This cell phone tracking unit was one of the first of its kind and was responsible for Axiom Navigation acquiring Traxsis.

After Traxsis Konstantin was a Senior Research Engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he Designed, analyzed, and simulated guidance and sensor systems for various missions including MSL, MER, and JIMO.  He also Performed rapid prototyping for flight critical components for the MER, MSL and Cassini programs and developed flight control software for robotic systems on the MER program.

Konstantin was a co-founder of  Geotrax with the rest of the Sportbug/Traxis development team.  There he was instrumental in developing a GPS tracking product used to recover stolen currency from bank robbers.  As a direct result of Konstanint’s RF expertise Geotrax was able to commercialized the product and had its first arrest with in 12 months.  After 3SI Security, GeoTrax’s biggest customer, acquired GeoTrax Konstantin continued as an employee and then as a consultant for 3SI Security  helping 3SI overcome many antenna and RF design issues.
